Day 3
Giving Tuesday on Campus
Happy Giving Tuesday! We know there are many worthy causes vying for your attention. Give to what matters most to you today and every day!
At Washington College on Day 3, please direct your attention to our efforts to care for the most basic needs of our students. George’s Free General Store and the Elm Tree Fund are two areas of need with wide-ranging impact on campus. With rising tuition costs and the nature of life offering unexpected challenges, some students are unable to afford what many of us take for granted. Today, the WC campus and local community are working together to give back to meet our students’ needs.
The Elm Tree Fund was established by members of the Class of 1954 to offer support to students in emergency situations. Just this past year, the fund was distributed to defray travel expenses, unexpected laptop and cell phone replacements, application fees, and more. This fund embodies the value of the alumni network, offering rainy day support for future generations from those that went before them.
As the name implies, George’s Free General Store offers donated pantry items and toiletries on the 1st floor of Hodson Hall. During winter break, several students will remain on campus as they don’t have homes to return to. Your donation to George’s Free General Store will help make their winter stay on campus more comfortable.
While online giving is at work, donations of toiletries and pantry items will be collected around campus on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and throughout the entirety of December Match Days at the Alumni House. Faculty and staff who donate items are eligible for two separate prize drawings.
