Join WC-ALL and Dr. Emily Steinmetz, Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at Washington College, to learn how the U.S. immigration strategy implemented in the mid-1990’s, known as "Prevention Through Deterrence", contributed to an ongoing humanitarian crisis at our southern border.

Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94) is a participatory art exhibit sponsored by the Undocumented Migration Project and hosted at over 100 sites (including Washington College), that highlights the human cost of migration and seeks to inspire social change. For the past three semesters, members of the Washington College community have been working on the exhibit in the Miller Library and students in several classes have created supplemental materials that enhance the exhibit.

Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the exhibit by completing and placing tags representing migrants who died attempting to cross into the United States.

This Learning Lab will be held on August 12 in the Miller Library from 10:30am - 12:00pm. Attendance is limited so secure your spot today!
